AeroSeal C

AeroSeal C / AeroSeal P are Cationic / Polymer Modified Bituminous Emulsions for roads having three types ; Rapid Setting (RS), Medium Setting (MS) and Slow Setting (SS). AeroSeal P is very effective for Cold Mix Asphalt concrete (CMA) and micro surfacing.

AeroSeal C is Cationic Bitumen Emulsion, and is widely used due to its ability to absorb on to a wider range of mineral aggregates than its Anionic counterpart. It results in better adhesion to mineral aggregates, sets readily on all but the most electro-positive aggregates and is effective for use in all weather conditions.

AeroSeal P is Polymer Modified Bituminous Emulsion which is being used to improve physical & flexural properties, performance and durability over normal AeroSeal C.
Specification of the Product
AeroSeal C is being supplied in accordance with the IS 8887:2004 and ASTM D 2397:05 specifications.
Rapid Setting (RS)
These grades are designed to react quickly with almost all types of aggregate and break from the emulsion state to bitumen. Rapid setting Cationic Bitumen is categorized in RS-1 & RS-2 according to their properties and specified use.
MediumSetting (MS)
This grade is designed for mixing with coarse aggregates and are ideal in premix surfacing due to it’s moderate breaking time/setting time and higher Binder Content with customized Emulsifier for better workability.
Slow Setting (SS)
This is a special type of Cationic Bitumen Emulsion having lower viscosity for higher penetration in the WBM/WMM Very carefully designed with suitable Emulsifier for the Slurry Mix. even with the CEMENT.
Slow setting Cationic Bitumen Emulsion has been Categorized in SS-1,SS-2 , CSS-1 and CSS -1h as per their properties, uses and specifications.

Characteristics
Characteristics of AeroSeal C for rapid setting, medium setting and slow setting are given in the Annexure A & B attached.

Application
RS-1: This type of Cationic Bitumen Emulsion is being used for Tack Coat and Repairing for the better binder content.
RS-2: This is mainly recommended for Surface Dressing, Patch Repairing and Overlay maintenance due to the higher binder content.
MS: This grade of Bitumen Emulsion is being widely used for the Premix Surfacing and Tack Coat during overlay.
SS-1: Due it’s lower viscosity, this grade of Cationic Bitumen Emulsion is being used for Prime Coat for better penetration, Fog Seal and Slurry Seal
SS-2: This is such type of slow setting emulsion which exhibit the better binder content which is very much required for the slurry seal and surface dressing.
CSS-1: This type of slow setting Cationic Bitumen emulsion is being used in Prime Coat, Slurry Seal and in few cases that can be used as Tack Coat where delayed setting is required

Advantages
  • Eco / user friendly, pollution free and non-toxic and economical to use.
  • Being cold applied, no necessity of special equipments like boiler, pre-mix plant, etc. Saves fuel and labour for heating and avoids fire hazard.
  • Applicable during all weather conditions including rain but excluding frost and heavy downfall.
  • Retains fluidity depending upon the grades until the penetration in the aggregate mass is completed and, hence, no possibility of using excess bitumen, which weakens the binder.
Application Methodology
  • Roll over the Drums properly before using.
  • AeroSeal is applied cold at ambient temperature. Two bitumen particles in a AeroSeal will coalesce if they come into contact. Contact is prevented by the suitable Emulsifier and Additives.
  • Prior to application, surface should be cleaned of loose aggregates and dust. With the direction of the Site-Engineer the surface may be slightly dampened with potable water immediately before application. Customized viscosity remains until penetration is completed and no additional additive is required to better penetration.
  • Conventional Sprayer, automated sprayers and other tools used in applications, should be rinsed/ cleaned with water prior to, and after their use to avoid contamination/breaking of AeroSeal on them. No brushing over AeroSeal should be done till it turned black. Nobody should be allowed to walk over uncovered applied area AeroSeal till it breaks and forms a black surface.
Health & Safety
  • Keep adequate ventilation during application. Avoid deep breathing of vapours and skin contact.
  • Use of gum boots, gloves, goggles, and nose covers is highly recommended.
  • The AeroSeal barrels should be rolled well on the ground and thereafter the contents must be mixed thoroughly with a rod before drawing the emulsion for use.
  • The lids should be replaced properly after drawing emulsion from the drum.
  • Brushes, Sprayers, etc. should be cleaned thoroughly with water before AeroSeal sets on them.
  • If it rains before the AeroSeal has set, spread the aggregate and wait until the surface is dry before rolling and opening to traffic.
  • On no account should workmen be allowed to walk over uncovered area where Bitumen Emulsion has been applied.
  • Do not heat and do not use them under frosty weather or in case of heavy downfall.
  • Do not open to traffic unless AeroSeal is broken and top surface has turned black.
  • Never mix two types of AeroSeal as this will cause coagulation.
